Poetry Magazine
Much of the poetry that appears on the pages of the magazine is good, but not always memorable. Out of last year’s 12 issues, the one I most remember is Todd Boss’s poetry. It was very good, and sticks with me. There were others that I enjoyed in the moment I read them, but Boss is one of those that I have sought out, looking for other publications by him and hoping to find a book to purchase.
Not every entry will jump out at the reader like that, but the thing is… some will. For me, that is enough reason to keep reading the publication.
But, even more, each issue is always entertaining, and usually has at least one thing to make the reader really think. When added to the occasional really memorable poem or poet, that makes Poetry the magazine I keep coming back to.
Hi!
Just wanted to thank you for the kind words on your blog about my poetry. I Googled myself and found your post that way. I Google myself obsessively lately, it’s ridiculous. Let me know if you’d like to reprint anything. POETRY magazine will publish two more of my pieces this year. I’ve been sending them poems for 16 years and now suddenly they’ve taken five in a season. What a great stretch! My work is also forthcoming in TRIQUARTERLY, PRAIRIE SCHOONER, SUBTROPICS, and THE NEW YORKER. Just kidding about THE NEW YORKER.
Hi Todd, and wow! Thanks for stopping by. I feel like I have a celebrity in the house!
I would love to reprint some of your poetry here. I will be looking out for you in the upcoming issues of Poetry too, and will try to get my hands on Triquarterly, Prairie Schooner, and Subtropics. I live in Singapore and can’t always get a hold of some of the literary magazines, other than ordering online. Do you know which months/issues your poetry will be appearing in? If so, I will make sure and order those particular issues.
Do you have any plans for a volume of your poetry to come out? It would be great to have a copy of that.
And, I am encouraged to hear that you kept sending your work into Poetry for so long. I could keep a separate file for rejection letters just from them!

Shelly,
There are no plans for a volume of my work in the near future, though some publishers have shown interest, so, who knows, I might have news for you one day.
You have my permission to reprint either of the two poems that appeared in POETRY in 2006. You can find about a dozen more of my poems at http://www.mnartists.org/Todd_Boss, where I tend to post things after they’ve been published.
Cheers!
Thanks for stopping in again Todd, and thanks for the permission to post those poems that were in the 2006 issue of Poetry. I will do so, and I will link to your site too. Thanks for that link. I will look forward to reading the poems you have there, and will be watching for that collection too!
I am very envious of your blog.
